Crochet Dreadlocks vs. Other Maintenance Methods
How the crochet method compares to palm rolling, interlocking and wax — and why Hooked & LOK'D uses crochet only.
Crochet vs. palm rolling
Palm rolling twists new growth by hand and usually relies on product to hold it. The result often loosens within days. Crochet pulls the hair into the loc itself, so the tightening is structural, not cosmetic.
Crochet vs. interlocking
Interlocking threads the loc through its own root, which can create a braided pattern and put stress on the same point over and over. Crochet works the full length of the loc and doesn't create that repeating weak point.
Crochet vs. wax
Wax coats the hair to make locs look tidy, but it builds up inside the loc, attracts lint and is difficult to remove. Hooked & LOK'D never uses wax — the crochet method needs nothing but the hook.
That's why the studio is crochet-only: one method, done well, by hand.
